Agility Performance Program
Agility Performance Program

Football is not played in straight lines. Every match demands the ability to accelerate, decelerate, change direction and react to an unpredictable environment.
But effective agility is about far more than quick feet. It requires the physical capacity to absorb force, control momentum, redirect movement and accelerate into the next action, often with limited time to make a decision.
The 6-Week Agility Performance Program has been developed to systematically improve the physical and technical qualities underpinning change of direction and reactive agility in football.
Rather than relying on random cone drills, the program follows a progressive structure that first develops movement mechanics before introducing the speed, uncertainty and decision-making demands of the game.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
6 Weeks of Progressive Training
A structured program consisting of 12 field sessions, with two sessions per week, progressing from controlled change of direction to reactive, football-specific movement.
Weeks 1–3: Change of Direction Development
Build the foundations of effective movement through progressive braking, 45°, 90° and 180° directional changes. Develop the technique and physical control required to decelerate efficiently, redirect force and reaccelerate.
Weeks 4–6: Reactive Agility Development
Progress into drills that introduce external cues, unpredictable directional changes and increasingly limited decision-making time. Learn to maintain movement quality while reacting at higher speeds.
12 Detailed Field Drills
Every drill includes clear diagrams, execution instructions and technical coaching points. Understand not only how to complete each exercise, but why it matters and what to focus on to improve movement efficiency.
Integrated Strength & Conditioning Program
Two complementary gym sessions, with progressions across both three-week blocks, targeting eccentric braking strength, unilateral force production, lateral power, lower-leg capacity and trunk control.
Structured Weekly Progressions
Clear guidance on training intensity, sets, repetitions, approach distances and braking demands. Progression is achieved by increasing movement speed, reducing preparation time and introducing greater decision-making complexity.
Football-Specific Movement Application
Develop the ability to react, press, recover and change direction in response to external information. The final phase introduces increasingly game-relevant movement problems to connect physical development with the demands of football.
WHY IT WORKS
Changing direction quickly requires more than the ability to move your feet.
An athlete must possess sufficient braking capacity to control their approach speed, the strength and technique to redirect force, and the ability to accelerate effectively out of the movement.
True agility introduces another demand: perceiving information and selecting an appropriate movement response under time pressure.
This program develops those qualities in a logical sequence.
First, develop control. Then increase speed. Finally, introduce the decision.
By combining progressive field training with targeted gym work, the program provides a structured approach to developing the physical capacity, movement technique and reactive qualities needed for multidirectional performance.
The objective is simple: become better at controlling your speed, reacting to changing situations and redirecting movement into the next action.
This isn't just a collection of agility drills. It's a progressive performance program built around the demands of football.
